Carbon export in the eastern Mediterranean Sea
DEEPLEV MOORING

The Deep Levantine Marine Station (DeepLev) is the first deep- moored research station in the deep Levantine Basin, offshore Israel. It is located 50 km from Haifa, at a water depth of 1,500 m.

   – The DeepLev was constructed and deployed by Bar-Ilan University (BIU) and Israel Oceanographic and Limnological Research (IOLR), and it carries an array of instruments, including various current meters (ADCPs), CTDs, sediment traps, fluorometers, and turbidity sensors.

   – The DeepLev team includes researchers from several academic and research institutions in Israel, including BIU, IOLR, Hebrew University, Tel-Aviv University, Haifa University and the Geological Survey.
